Mobile phone platform delayed until 2009, so here's ten of the best you can buy before Christmas
The latest details surrounding Google's Android open-source mobile phone platform have just come in, with reports claiming the operating system will be delayed until 2009. This isn't the first time it's been delayed, leaving us feeling slightly antsy about when we'll see the first truly open-source mobile phone.
If you just can't wait until early 2009 for the first Android phone to launch, said to be the HTC-created 'Dream', we've picked out the best ten mobiles you can pick up between now and Christmas.
1.) Nokia N96 - Out on October the 1st, the N96 is the upgrade to the popular N95. It features a 5.0-megapixel camera, 2.7" QVGA screen, inbuilt GPS and 16GB of internal storage.
2.) Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - Available from November, Sony Ericsson's first full-fledged smartphone will run on Windows Mobile, contains a 3.2-megapixel camera, and full QWERTY keypad.
3.) BlackBerry Bold - The first BlackBerry to feature 3G internet connectivity, the Bold has a large 480 x 320 resolution screen, 2.0-megapixel camera and all-new operating system. Out in September, according to RIM.
4.) Nokia Tube - Still not confirmed by Nokia, their first touchscreen mobile is meant to debut before Christmas, although little else is known about it. We're guessing it will have at least 8GB of storage, GPS, and a 5.0-megapixel camera, though.
5.) BlackBerry Thunder - Again, this is another one which still hasn't been confirmed officially, but we'll bet you our young sister it'll pop out of RIM's womb before Chrimbo. October the 8th is the latest rumour, in fact. Touch-screen, it will be one of the first consumer-led BlackBerry smartphones.
6.) Sony Ericsson C905 - With 8.1-megapixels, this is one serious camera-phone. Sony Ericsson claims you'll be able to blow your pics up to A3 size perfectly, and that it will have HSDPA internet. Out before Christmas.
7.) Samsung INNOV8 - Samsung's rival for the C905, the INNOV8 has 8.0-megapixels, and will come in either 8GB or 16GB capacities. Out later in August, this should boost Sammy's sales.
8.) Motorola Alexander - Yet another 8.0-megapixel cam-phone, Motorola is hoping to take on Samsung and Sony Ericsson with the Alexander. With Windows Mobile and a slide-out QWERTY, it'll be the first business phone with more than a 3.0-megapixel snapper, and should run 3D graphics.
9.) HTC Touch Diamond - The name says it all, with the Touch Diamond having a touchscreen, and a pretty prism-effect on the back casing. 3G internet, 3.2-megapixel camera and the new TouchFLO effect should satisfy punters, plus it's already out!
10.) Apple iPhone 3G - There's not much more to tell you about the latest iPhone, however if we didn't include it we'd no doubt face some extreme opposition from the fanboys. Already out, in 8GB and 16GB capacities, you've probably already felt one up, haven't you?
